Establishing Creative Direction and a Lead-Driven Web Platform for a Renewable Energy Start-up
A Vision Looking for a Voice
Kudo is a UK-based B2B start-up focused on renewable energy asset management. Positioned at the intersection of sustainability and digital technology, they needed more than just a website. Kudo required a full visual identity and a digital presence that would reflect their ambition while clearly communicating their services to a diverse business audience.
Pre-launch and pre-brand, Kudo came to The Zen Agency looking for a partner to help them define how they would show up in the world.
Digital Marketing Umbraco Web & App Development Branding & Design Content Creation
Our engagement with Kudo began at the earliest stage of their business journey. We ran discovery workshops with their leadership team to better understand their offering, values, and target audience. The result was a brand strategy rooted in clarity, credibility, and clean energy, one that would appeal to business decision-makers while maintaining a modern, digital-first sensibility.
We then developed a full visual identity system, including:Logo design and scalable iconographyColour palette and typography with a professional yet approachable toneDesign guidelines for consistent use across digital and print materials
The name “Kudo” was already in place, so our role was to elevate it, ensuring the brand felt distinctive, relevant to the energy sector, and flexible enough to grow alongside the business.
Once the brand direction was agreed upon, we turned our focus to developing Kudo’s website. The primary objective was clear: create a modern, responsive site that positioned Kudo as a credible and professional partner in the renewable energy space, and functioned as a lead generation tool from day one.
We chose Umbraco as the CMS for its flexibility and scalability, ensuring Kudo’s internal team could manage content easily as the company expanded. The site was built around a modular content structure, giving the team full control over adding new service areas, blog posts, case studies, or resources without developer support.
The website strategy was designed to support:
Clear user journeys for prospective clients, leading them toward contact or enquiryOptimised SEO structures to begin organic rankings earlyMobile-first responsiveness, ensuring access across all devicesB2B-focused lead generation through strategically placed CTAs and contact forms
We also ensured that the tone of voice and brand messaging remained consistent throughout the site, helping to create trust, familiarity, and authority across all touchpoints.
By the time Kudo officially launched, they had a brand and platform that communicated their value clearly and professionally. The site was well-received by early investors and partners, and provided a reliable platform to begin engaging with potential clients immediately. With a clean UI, structured layout, and strong branding, the digital presence matched the high quality of their product and future ambitions.
Results included:
A fully scalable CMS system with in-house editability, reducing reliance on external developersA growing number of qualified leads submitted via the website, showing early traction in B2B outreachA clear and effective brand identity used across presentations, marketing materials, and investor communications
The Kudo project represents a strong example of brand and platform alignment from day one, a launch-ready foundation that speaks clearly and confidently in a competitive industry.
