MND Scotland is the sole charity providing care, information and funding research into Motor Neurone Disease in Scotland. MND Scotland appointed The Zen Agency to provide a new website as the current offering was seen as becoming increasingly dated.

The key objectives for the project were to provide a site which offered information to those who required it in an easy to use way whilst also increasing the number of visitors to the website and increasing engagement amongst volunteers and employees.

The new site was required to be responsive while also integrating with a number of internal and external systems; MND Scotland also required a shop where they could sell various items to the public.

Zen were chosen to deliver this brief due to our extensive experience in working with charities and our ability to provide examples of previous work which was relevant to the project. 

The Zen Agency designed and developed the new MND Scotland site on the Umbraco CMS allowing the staff to easily update the website with content, images and videos, ensuring the site acted as an interactive hub for any users.

The simple navigation and architecture of the build allowed for information to be found quickly and promptly.  We carried out in-depth user experience testing in order to ensure visitors did not become frustrated when using the new site. 

This guaranteed that the site would be built with the end user at the forefront of our minds.

Clear calls to action on the homepage allowed MND Scotland to drive their audience to specific sections within the website - these were image led and helped add to the overall engagement of the site.

The website makes use of a ‘panel system’ which allows MND Scotland to quickly and easily swap out discrete functional elements across the website. This gives greater control to the client and means the website can be constantly refined through analytical data gathering.

The new website features an online shop which was created using the popular Tea Commerce platform and designed for easy management by MND Scotland staff.

The system is fully integrated with both PayPal and Sage Pay, providing a variety of payment options for the user. It is also integrated with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and Just Giving; the former facilitates regular online donations as an option for users of the website.

Postcode look-up functionality was also implemented via the industry standard PCA Predict service, allowing users to easily find their address when filling out forms across the website; this includes arranging shipping for any shop purchases. 

Zen also integrated the new site with MND Scotland’s ECRM system; this provides a seamless back-office experience and ensures efficiency and effectiveness across the organisation.  

MND Scotland had a key requirement of having the ability to easily create custom forms and place them within the website as and when required. To meet this, Zen have provided a dynamic forms solution which allows MND Scotland staff to create custom forms to their own designs and with their own different types of back-end system integration as required such as dispatching confirmation Emails or writing records to the CRM system.

Through our partnership approach we have managed to create a website which not only provides MND Scotland with masses of functionality and a beautiful looking design but far exceeds their initial brief, and all delivered within the set budget. The new website has recently launched and through extensive training all relevant staff are now familiar with their new system.

We are continuing to support the website after the initial launch and we look forward to our ongoing partnership with MND Scotland
