Duart Castle situated on the Isle of Mull is the ancestral home to the Clan Maclean and one of Scotland’s leading historical attractions.

Following on from the restoration of the castle in 2014 the Zen Agency was awarded the contract to redevelop the current website of Duart Castle. The website was to be targeted globally to the general public particularly to anyone who had any relationship with the Clan Maclean which has a long rich history with Duart Castle. In addition the new site was to showcase the location highlighting the castle to people like film crews and location specialists. One of the main aims of the project was to provide a shop window for the sale of the Clan Maclean products on a global basis. 

Integrated Strategy

The Zen Agency proposed a new website/e-commerce system to be introduced that acts as an information hub conveying relevant and engaging content to users. In addition there would be a built in e-commerce system allowing Duart to market their products on a global scale. 

Design

After the initial wireframes were agreed for the structure of the new website we went through an initial design stage where we provided a variety of different concepts to the client. This allowed us to sit down with Duart and discuss elements which they liked and things which they were not keen on, allowing us to refine the design to their exact needs and requirements. 

The new site is a visually stunning design which provides a showcase for the stunning setting of Duart Castle. 

Responsive Design

We implemented a responsive design that is accessible by all devices. 

Umbraco

Umbraco was selected as the CMS of choice for the new Duart Castle website. Zen worked closely with the in house team at Duart to ensure the new platform provided met their needs in terms of updating and managing the website. 

Tea Commerce

We integrated the Umbraco CMS in a seamless fashion with Tea Commerce, making it extremely easy for Duart to manage and providing the platform to sell their products on a global basis. 

Information Architecture

The organisation of the content and navigation structure had to be intuitive and easy to use for visitors, this was achieved through extensive UX testing and clear wireframing which was completed at the very beginning of the project.
